Task

It's now time to learn about the spies of the American Revolutionary War. Your group will develop a fictional spy and write a fictional letter that will be your "spy letter". This spy letter will correspond with actual events in the Revolutionary War and will be written in a code you develop. (You will need to provide a translation for that code.) You will map out a route that your fictional spy will take on his or her spy adventure. You may chose the American side or the British side for your spy. You will need to divide into groups of three students. Each student will have an individual job, but they will also help each other with their tasks. Please remember that you will be expected to work together on this project. These are the positions you will be able to chose from in your group.

Cartographer- This person will map the route your spy takes in his journey. This person probably likes geography.
Cryptologist - This person will come up with the code that you will use to write your spy letter. This person likes puzzles.
Military Strategist- This person will come up with your military plan for your spy. This person likes learning about battles and strategy.
A suggested timeline might be as follows: First the Military Strategist will decide on the military action you will be involved with and begin to write a letter. Secondly, the Cryptologist will begin to device a code for your letter. Thirdly, the Cartographer will work with the Military strategist to device a map your spy will take.

You will turn in the following items at the end of this project. 1. Letter written in code, by a fictional spy using actual events and places in the Revolutionary War. 2. The translation of the code. 3. Map your spy took, using actual events and places in the Revolutionary War. The map should have a legend. 4. Bibliography listing your sources, using standard MLA format.

Let's move on to the Process and the Resources you will need to complete this task.
